My sincere condolences. People don't understand the bond that exists between a people and dogs (or any pet for that matter). It is, as you indicated, like having a child that needs attention almost as much as the real child does. I have a tribute to a dog that wasn't even mine on my blog. The name of it is "Buddy". He was a big yellow lab that would walk with me every morning. He was the one ray of sunshine I had during a particularly dark time in my life.

Again, my condolences.
